04/4/14 Spokesman-online / BC CS News
Spokesman-online, the most popular place for CS news over the last 6+ years, is no longer being updated. The eve of season discovery was a disappointment to many, but I guess all good things come to an end. The sport owes editor Rod Witham a big thank you for the fantastic job he did, and I doubt many realise how much time such a project required.
British Cycling have pledged to keep the sport's fraternity informed though, and their cycle speedway newsletter page looks set to take over from Spokesman-online. http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/cyclespeedway/article/cysst-Cycle-Speedway-Newsletter-0 is the URL to bookmark.
29/11/07 Spokesman-online
Spokesman, the sport's respected magazine will never be the same after long-time editor Rod Witham has reluctantly stood down. Production of the magazine appears to have been paused for some reason but Rod's talents will not be idle. Spokesman-online is now the place to go for the latest cycle speedway news. It has started off really well and I recommend you go there now and bookmark it.
This new site, along with the Yahoo Groups cycle speedway mailing list are the great sources for current information in the sport. Although some clubs still prefer to keep their activities secret, plenty of clubs have web sites and there is now a good internet presence for our sport. There is therefore no longer a need for me to maintain a news page here. And I'll take any extra spare time I can!
22/11/07 SE Get Together
South East clubs met in November for the region's AGM. There was little to report apart from the fact that Somersham were unable to commit to league racing next year. The Stars constantly failed to field a full side during 2007 after being let down by riders, and rarely stood a chance of winning meetings. There is a chance they may compete after the Kesgrave club have offered to help out but the riders will inevitably decide.
The commitee were all re-elected without issue, and there were few rule changes to worry about. The most interesting will see the SE2 restricted riders being reviewed during the year based on current averages.
13/9/07 Proposals
You may not have thought about 2008 yet, but as soon as the racing season is over the 2007 Cycle Speedway AGM will be upon us. It is on November 25, but proposals for change need to be submitted by September 28. This doesn't leave long so clubs wishing to make proposals should waste no time and send them in writing to the BC CS Administrator.
10/9/07 Major Funding Boost reports Rob Absalom
East Newport CSC have been awarded a grant totalling £4200 from the Sports Council for Wales towards developing their facilities and equipment.
The club will now have the necessary equipment to start accommodating the younger riders who turn up on training nights but as yet have not been able to enjoy the thrills of cycle speedway on bikes built for their size. The attractive Larch Grove circuit will have a new vandal proof portakabin, new bikes, helmets, gloves and their safety fence finished off with chain link fencing installed around the full perimeter. The club will also fund 2 members to become full BCF coaches to assist current coach Pete Sadler with the expected upturn in rider totals coming to Welsh club.
24/6/07 Money Talks
Leicester CSC are pleased to announce an award of £1495.00 from Young People First. This will aid the development of work with junior riders. Meanwhile, Newport are pleased to announce they have been granted a 1000 pounds grant from the community chest. This will go towards new bikes coaches and track equipment.
03/6/07 Depressing find for Exeter
Exeter csc has suffered the worst act of vandalism they have ever encountered. All the club huts and equipment have been wrecked including the new club house built by the members and parents. They face an uphill struggle to prepare for next weekend when Exeter host the under 19 nationals, but with a lot of help from parents and club members they hope to be up and running. Check the photos on the Exeter site (not sure how long they'll be there).
31/5/07 DVD
Charlie Monster Productions have now released their DVD of the British Under 16's Team Finals held at Leicester's Glover Park track.
The professionally produced recording features all 56 heats from both of the semi finals and the final itself plus a edited highlights section with all the best races........and crashes!
Orders can be placed via the Leicester Monarchs website at £5.00 including post and packing.

12/11/06 British Double
British Champion Lee Aris completed the double after winning the British Indoor Championship at Salford. Lee dropped just won point on his way to the title and then helped Wednesfield win the British Team Title. But it wasn't all good news in the Aris camp - Wayne Aris broke his thigh after falling in the second heat of the day. We wish him a quick recovery.
12/11/06 Monarchs Go Ride reports Tim Crusher
Leicester Cycle Speedway are pleased to announce the attainment of Go-Ride status, this is the cumulation of much hard work and dedication by the clubs committee and it's appointed coaches.
12/11/06 SE AGM
The South East regional clubs met early this off-season for their annual meeting. There was not too much to report - the basic structure and all official positions remaining unchanged. The unpopular Combination league was dropped but the SE Grand Prix series re-instated with a massive increase in the number of rounds. There was also plenty of discussion on disciplinary matters and the British Premier League.
08/10/06 Go Ridereports Den Engel
Congratulations to Bury CSC, who announced last week that they are the latest Cycle Speedway club to receive go-ride accreditation.
03/9/06 Italian Job reports Tim Crusher
Leicester are to play host to a group of Italian cyclists currently in the UK studying (new to them) disciplines. This is a fully funded visit with the aim of starting various cycling centres in Italy. They first heard of cycle speedway from a DVD produced by the city council and seem keen to explore the possibilites of including it in their plans.
18/8/06 Go Ride
Newport have become the latest cs club to gain British Cycling Go Ride accreditation. The club were officially launced on Tuesday by Mr Ian Jenkins, developement officer of the Welsh Cycling Union, where the certificate was handed over to club chairman John Turner, in front of the club's youngsters, parents and sponsors.
27/7/06 Rat Race
Edinburgh Falcons Cycle Speedway Club was proud to host one of the events in this Years Edinburgh Rat Race Adventure series on Saturday 15th July 2006. The Rate Race Urban adventure is designed to be extreme fun for all levels from newcomers to elite adventure racers.
After last years event, where Cycle Speedway was open to only the "elite" racers, great feedback from the competitors meant this time over 60 teams of three appeared during the evening at Redbraes. Ian "caveman" McKinlay, Tommy Lee, Gav Kennedy and Ewan "Sid" Tulloch took each of the teams through their paces in a series of short sharp races earning each team points in their quest to become this year's Rat Race winners.
Look out for the highlights show on Channel 4 later this year to catch Cycle Speedway at Redbraes on "terrestrial" TV for the 2nd year in a row!

15/1/06 South East Plan for 2006
The South East League met today for their AGM and the league structure remains very similar for another season. There was also a pleasing stability on the personnel front with all officers retaining their roles.
There was plenty of debate for chairman Dave Flemming to manage though, with the race formula coming under considerable scrutiny. The outcome was that riding places have been traded for more opposition, as SE1 will now use the 6 rider per team formula as per SE2. The reason for this was that Kesgrave, Eaton and Somersham were unable to field 8 man teams, and appeared disinterested in SE2.
As usual secondary registrations was another heated area. Here the SE will continue to operate contrary to National rules, by allowing secondary registrations within the same competition. They could even be allowed within the same division!
On a more professional note, a bond is now required for clubs entering the league to dissuade them from withdrawing mid-season.
The meeting was followed by the East Anglian Association's meeting which covered more ground than usual.
Secondary Registrations again got a hearing, and there was a surprising u-turn with clubs' views of 12 months ago, and these registrations will now be recognized again.
The association discussed the poor attendance at their events last year, but in a brave move have decided to increase the number of them in 2006. Switching from Saturdays to Sundays is seen as the saviour.
10/1/06 New Track at Filton as reported on Filton town council's site
Filton Town Council is to build a new cycle speedway track in Elm Park near to the Filton Sports and Leisure Centre. Former rider Andy Hewlett is the main man responsible for bringing the sport back to the Bristol area. He used to ride at Easton and later founded Somerset Speedway at Highbridge. A lot of work is ahead though to build the track in time for the 2006 season.
Filton Cycle Speedway Club is running a competition for under 16s where you can win a new bike. See the club's site.

05/8/05 Go-Ride-In reports Mike Hack
Astley & Tyldesley assisted British Cycling with their highly successful promotion of the Go-Ride-In event at the City of Manchester Stadium. In the region of 2,500 youngsters participated in the event which featured 16 different activities, including cycle speedway. A & T's European Champions Damian Zareba and Remi Burchardt put on a series of demonstration races, whilst A & T's BCF qualified coaches Gary Nuttall and Mike Hack organized the cycle speedway races for a constant stream of youngsters throughout the day. For a report and photographs of the day's event, visit British Cycling's website.
10/7/05 Singletrack Magazine reports Mike Hack
There is an excellent feature on the Singletrack editorial team's recent visit to Astley & Tyldesley for a training night in the July edition of Singletrack magazine. The feature is over several pages and has some brilliant colour action shots.
The magazine can be found on sale at W.H. Smiths and in mountain bike shops.
31/3/05 Transfers & Secondary Registrations
British Cycling has released a list of transfers and secondary registrations for the 2005 season. This year's list is substantial and it's doubtful whether many are in the interests of the sport. Club loyalty seems to be on the decline and unless some restrictions are put in place, the future of some clubs could be threatened.

23/2/05 SE Update
31/1/05 East Anglian Association AGM
There is no longer an EA league but the association still organizes a few events and they met after the SE AGM.
The East Anglian Individuals will again run in 2005, but an U-10 age group has been added. This along with U-13 & U-16 will take place at Norwich. Somersham will host the U-19 and Senior events. The Fours will be at Ipswich.
One interesting development voted in was that the EACSA will not recognize secondary registrations for it's competitions.
Terry Ashford, Mel Perkins, Gary Brown and John Nelson were happy to continue in their official posts.
31/1/05 SE Region AGM News
A good turnout for the annual get together at Gt. Blakenham. As the only existing executive committee member, (chairman Alan Evans and secretary Ivan Pike did not complete their commitments made last year,) Dave Flemming did a good job of organising and running the meeting. It's not always an easy task! There were some lengthy discussions, particularly about the league structure, secondary registrations, and referees but the key decisions were:
31/1/05 Suffolk AGM news
A good turn out for the Suffolk AGM at Whitton, but unfortunately the quality of discussion did not match the quantity.
A large chunk of the meeting was wasted with a boring yarn about a Suffolk Premier League team. No club was prepared to host a season's worth of premier racing anyway, so it was all rather irrelevant. There was also discussion on secondary registrations within the South East League - surely more suited to the SE agm?
This left very little time to discuss requirements for local racing in Suffolk. The individual county championships are expected to still be the primary events but the committee will have to meet again to sort out the fixtures.
The key roles were filled by Terry Ashford (Chairman/Treasurer), Peter Mittell (Secretary) and Ian Turnbull (Recorder), while Tracey Barratt and Ray Pyke are also part of the Committee. Dave Hunting later joined.
