South East Grand Prix Series - Supplementary Regulations
(Draft for 2023)
Eligibility
Open to members of clubs affiliated to the South East Cycle Speedway
League.
Age Groups
The age groups are confirmed by the League at the start of the
season. If any British Youth & Junior League rounds double
up as SE GP rounds, the age groups are determined by the British
Youth & Junior League. A Senior and O-40 age group will usually be added
to these. Riders may enter any age group they are eligible for
under normal BC rules, but can only compete in one group per meeting.
Start time
The youngest age group will begin at the published meeting start
time, and others will progress in age order. Depending on entries, mulitple age groups may be run concurrently, i.e. more than one age
group in the pits and alternate racing between those age groups.
The U-16 and higher age groups' start time will be no earlier
than one hour after the published start time. Riders must register
their intent to ride 15 minutes before their start time.
Late entries may only be accepted if there is space in the chosen
race formula. Riders may be invited to ride in an older age category
as necessary.
Format
The number of rounds and venues will be determined by the League
at the start of the season. Each club in the region will be invited
to stage a round.
Where a round & age group is also a British Youth & Junior League round,
the rules for that competition take precedence.
In each round riders will have 4 qualifying races each, leading
to finals which determine Grand Prix points scored.
A rider's Grand Prix points from each round will contribute to their overall series total. At the beginning of the season, the League will determine the number of rounds that count towards that total. e.g. the best 7 scores out of 8 rounds. In that scenario, riders who appear in every round will have their lowest Grand Prix round score deducted from their overall total.
The Series' winners will be those with the highest overall totals
in each age group.
The staging club will be responsible for providing the referee
and officials in the event of no appointments being made.
Qualifying Heat Formulae
The qualifying race formulae will be chosen by officials of the
meeting and based on the number of riders registered for the
meeting. The formulae chosen should maximize the no. of races
featuring 4 riders.
Age groups will generally compete separately, but depending on
the numbers of riders, adjacent age groups may be combined during
the qualifying heat stages only (in the interests of variety and
encouraging 4 riders per race). Riders will be consulted if there
is any doubt about whether to do this.
Finals
The top 4 qualifying heat scorers in each age group will qualify
for that age group's A Final. The next 4 scorers in each age group
will qualify for that age group's B Final, and so on for the C
& D Finals. Any further riders will not qualify for a final
(or score Grand Prix points). The finals will be raced in the
order D,C,B then A.
In all finals, choice of gate position will be determined by qualifying
points scored. i.e highest scorer chooses first.
Grand Prix Points
A Final 1st 20 2nd 18 3rd 17 4th 16
B Final 1st 14 2nd 13 3rd 12 4th 11
C Final 1st 9 2nd 8 3rd 7 4th 6
D Final 1st 4 2nd 3 3rd 2 4th 1
Ties
A tie affecting gate positions or qualification for the finals
will be resolved by the result(s) of when the riders met in the
qualifying heats. If this is insufficient and qualification for
a final is at stake, then a run-off will decide. But for ties
just affecting gate positions, current overall standings (or last
year's at the first round) will be used. The toss of a coin will
be used if still tied.
A tie affecting overall series positions for a top 3 place will
be decided by a run-off at the final round. If a rider is not
present, the League may rearrange a run-off.
